Ralphs presents check for more than $7,000 to Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center

The Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center received a very generous donation Thursday from Ralphs.

The super market presented the cancer center with a check for $7,439.

"I always knew that Ralphs was an exceptional supermarket, but until I had cancer I never really understood the true meaning of their giving," said cancer survivor and Ralphs employee Sherry Kovas.

Kovas spearheaded efforts with Ralphs to make several donations to the cancer center.

"I would say to the people out there who just found out that they have been diagnosed with cancer, come to Luci Curci Cancer Center, there are so many people willing to help you and its free," added Kovas.

Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center is located at 39000 Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage.

American Cab Co. to Continue Service

It was a close call for American Cab, the largest cab service in the Coachella Valley. The cab company could have been shut down Wednesday due to a dispute over its ownership change but a new interim attorney concluded American Cab did not violate any rules.

"It's reassuring that it's water under the bridge now because there are 85 of us who were at risk of losing our jobs," said Peter Kurzon, a cab driver.

But for several months, Kurzon and another 80 plus employees at American Cab were fearful of losing their jobs.
